LAS VEGAS, NV – There are a lot of reasons why it’s a good idea to get braces – beyond the obvious cosmetic benefit – and Las Vegas invisalign provider Dr. David Alpan suggests that the first of the year is a good time to investigate the possibility of a new smile.
“Who really needs braces? For many people, orthodontic treatment is a way of obtaining the confident smile that they have long dreamed of having,” Las Vegas Invisalign expert Alpan says. “When teeth are properly aligned, it helps to promote a healthy smile for a lifetime. An investment in orthodontic treatment at the start of the year launches a future with the benefit of a beautiful smile, higher confidence and improved self-esteem.”
Of course, orthodontic treatment addresses a lot more than just outward appearances. There are dental health issues as well that are very important to address.
“Orthodontic work is also a way to correct bite issues that can have adverse effects on the way you speak or chew your food,” Alpan says. “It can also eventually lead to other oral health problems.”
During a patient’s initial, free orthodontic consultation at Alpan’s Las Vegas orthodontics office, many conditions will be checked for that could indicate a need for treatment. They include:
Open bite: This exists in patients who are able to stick their tongue between the upper and lower front teeth when the back teeth are together.
Crossbite: When upper, back teeth can fit inside the lower teeth, instead of outside.
Over-jet or a deep bite: This is when the upper teeth cover more than one millimeter of the lower teeth.
Underbite: When the upper teeth fit inside the arch of the lower teeth, and the lower jaw protrudes farther than the upper jaw.
Spacing: Also called gaps, these can occur between upper or lower teeth.
Protruding upper teeth.
Crowding: When teeth do not have enough room, which causes overlap or teeth that are too close together.
Front teeth alignment: The space where two upper front teeth and two lower front teeth meet is supposed to line up, and be in alignment with the bridge of the nose. When they do not, usually it is when the teeth have drifted because the lower jaw has shifted. The result in an improper bite.
The Las Vegas invisible braces professional says that when considering resolutions for 2011, he urges patients to come in for a consultation so they can learn if they could benefit from treatment. Alpan, who founded Aesthetic Orthodontics, says an investment in a gorgeous, healthy smile is also a solid investment in each patient’s future.
